Our hands imbibe like roots
The late Menelaos Pittas, a photographer renowned for his deep love of Cyprus and its natural beauty, continually sought new inspiration in the world around him. As a tribute to his life's work, appios® creative studio designed a catalogue that would not only document his vast collection of photographs but also effectively communicate his artistic vision.
The catalogue's size was intentionally made larger than a typical book, subtly referencing the dimensions of a newspaper while underscoring the importance and grandeur surrounding Pittas' work. The creative team used modern geometric fonts and elements for the title and introductory texts to infuse the publication with a contemporary feel. Given the bilingual nature of the publication, appios® emphasized the English text by applying it on a larger scale. A typewriter-style font was used for the main texts, evoking a nostalgic vibe that complements the historical and emotional depth of Pittas’ photography.
“Each section was assigned a different colour inspired by the plants and natural elements featured in the photographs. This helped organize the works and added a layer of visual interest and thematic coherence.”
“The catalogue pays tribute to Menelaos Pittas’ work, respecting his artistic vision while presenting his photographs in a contemporary and engaging format. The thoughtful design choices – ranging from the typography to the colour-coding of sections – combine to create a publication that artfully documents Pittas’ extensive collection.”
