Victor Ioannides ‘The Charm of Home’
Victor Ioannides (1903-1984) is one of the most well-known Cypriot artists and belongs to the so-called first generation of local artists, born in Limassol in 1903. He became famous for colour mixtures prepared on fire, giving maximum transparency and brightness to paintings and a porcelain-like appearance, described by the local press at the time as ‘pioneer of the conjectural movement in Cyprus’.
Appios® studio was approached by the Victoras Ioannides Foundation to design the identity of a retrospective exhibition named ‘The Charm of Home’ at the House of Cyprus in Athens, the city where this influential painter took his first steps in the art world.
The creative team created an exhibition identity to effortlessly reflect the elegance and timelessness of the artworks showcased, providing a glimpse of a simpler and more unpretentious bygone era, amid the buzz of today’s modern Greek capital. The thoughtfully selected typography marries tradition with modernity, with clean lines and subtle curves complementing the delicate and muted tones that characterise Ioannides’ works. The creative team also designed a catalogue to document the exhibits, leaving ample room for interpretation and contemplation.

Victor Ioannides (1903-1984) is one of the most well-known Cypriot artists, famed for his colour mixtures prepared on fire, giving his paintings a porcelain-like appearance. On the occasion of a retrospective exhibition in his honour at the House of Cyprus in Athens, Appios® creative Studio designed a pocket-sized catalogue, offering a tangible record of the showcased artworks in chronological order while providing deeper insights into the artist’s inspiration and life.
The exhibition title, depicted on the cover of the publication, uses carefully selected typography to marry tradition with modernity, with clean lines and subtle curves complementing the delicate and muted tones that characterise the artist’s works.
On every page, the deliberate use of white space around each image leaves ample room for interpretation and contemplation, inviting viewers to fully immerse themselves in the artwork.
A carefully selected serif and classic font, used for the main texts accompanying the images, strikes the perfect balance between modern aesthetics and classic elegance, enhancing the overall appeal of the catalogue.
