Ledra Palace: Dancing on the Line
The exhibition at The Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia, presents the ‘golden years’ of the Ledra Palace Hotel, the emblematic hotel of Nicosia, and its fascinating social history. At the same time, it highlights the hotel as a means to outline the modern political history of Cyprus. Objects, oral testimonies and rare archival material, combined with the innovative technology from cyens, offer visitors an exceptional museum experience.
In the exhibition, the design element of the line that appios® team created, looks like a cardiogram, yet it is something more important – it is the true story of the legend that is the Ledra Palace Hotel. It is a never-ending story, even though the events of 1974 altered its pace. With its vivid, bright colour playing between memories and technology, this line is designed to dance continuously, inviting the visitor to follow its steps…
The colour is inspired by the neon tape forming a rectangle placed by the peacekeepers over the luxurious granite floor at the entrance of the hotel. This peculiar rectangle aroused the curiosity of the exhibition team during our visit in July 2020.
Publication
The 274 pages of the exhibition catalogue were designed as an ode to the history of the hotel and the memories of the people who worked and passed through the Ledra Palace Hotel. Even though the exhibition at The Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia introduced digital technology created by cyens, this publication remains a classic testimony of the monument Ledra Palace Hotel that marked the modern history of Cyprus.
The colour palette combines high colour contrast with the risky font Input Serif, designed by David Jonathan Ross. Although the font was envisioned to be used by programmers, the appios® team found it fitting for the tremulous history of the hotel and this seminal publication.
