Local Archaeological Museum of Ledroi
In January 2023, history lovers gravitated towards a new museum that opened its doors in Cyprus’ capital of Nicosia, shedding light on the city’s past. The Local Archaeological Museum of Ledroi was founded by the Cyprus Department of Antiquities to enrich the island’s capital. Showcasing its cultural heritage, it also acts as a critical point of connection with other important projects in the heart of the capital, including the New Cyprus Museum, to be built just two kilometres from Ledroi.
The appios® team was responsible for the museum design, driven by a desire to best present Nicosia’s past in an eye-catching and inspiring manner, without deterring the eye from the importance of the precious artifacts. A series of timeline exhibits and wall panels were created to take visitors on a step-by-step journey through the ages, assisting them in better understanding the historical significance of the various historical items showcased.
The creative team opted for an earthy palette, including deep cerulean blue, warm bronze and terracotta, reflecting the natural colours and richness of Cyprus to create a harmonious aesthetic that complements the exhibits. Key elements and patterns from the ancient artefacts – including figurines, sculptures, pottery, and more – create graphic interest, drawing the eye to the intricate details that once formed part of the daily life, work, and rituals of Nicosia’s inhabitants.
