Ubuntu. 5 Rooms from the Harry David Art Collection

Exceptional works by leading artists of the contemporary African art-scene, selected from the Harry David Art Collection are presented in a unique show unfolding over five specially designed and curated rooms, in the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Athens.

The appios® studio created the UBUNTU identity, as well as the information panels and labels throughout the exhibition. The panel design was also imagined by the studio as a hovering element overlaying the custom-made walls designed by KallosTurin (London and San Francisco).

The exhibition also marks the first time the studio has collaborated and delivered an entire project via online communications.

The identity of the exhibition is inspired by African typefaces, hence the choice of the bold font ‘ubuntu’. The yellow colour accent present on the top edge of the panels is also inspired by the yellow industrial beams used by KallosTurin to create the temporary pergola structure within the space.

In another ‘first’ the studio collaborated with blobart, a Blob Ventures company, which creates a digitally enhanced exhibition, incorporating QR codes and image recognition in the exhibition labels and panels. These allow visitors to capture, store and carry the artworks and texts they scan with them, in a personalised album, through the blob art application.
