Poetic Metaphors
Art historian Dafne Nikita and visual artist Giorgos Taxiarchopoulos approached the appios® team to design the identity for a temporary exhibition at the House of Cyprus in Athens. The studio began the creative process by examining the works of the 13 Cypriot and Greek participants, provoking the viewer and evoking thoughts, feelings, memories, expectations, fears, and concerns. Each piece was symbolic, colourful, and meaningful in its own way, with the creators expressing their individual poetic metaphors through art, expanding the horizons of the senses and mind.
It soon became evident that the exhibition identity had to be sleek, contemporary, and clean, allowing the artwork to speak for itself. As such, the typeface used was purposefully minimal and non-intrusive. The neutral black and white palette added a timeless simplicity to the exhibition panels and publication.
Publication
An exhibition catalogue plays a crucial role in immortalizing an exhibition's legacy and ensuring its impact endures beyond the duration of the event.
When asked to design a small booklet for the ‘Poiitikes Metafores’ (Poetic Metaphors) temporary exhibition at the House of Cyprus in Athens, Appios® studio immediately took on a contemporary and minimalist approach. The aim was to make a lasting impact while allowing the innovative creations of 13 forward-thinking Cypriot and Greek participants to speak for themselves.
The compact booklet, designed to complement the exhibition, seamlessly integrates a neutral black-and-white color palette consistent with the exhibition's theme. Modern typography and contemporary abstract design elements were used to invigorate the pages, enhancing the overall presentation with a sleek and engaging aesthetic.
