Nativity Stories
For the first international temporary exhibition at the A. G. Leventis Gallery dedicated to "The Nativity Stories" the studio worked closely with the curators to create a compelling identity and design. The exhibition traces the depiction of the Nativity from the Byzantine tradition and western Mediaeval art to the 17th century, but also in the aftermath of the Baroque period, on a journey up to the internal quests of the 19th and 20th century.
A gold accent colour was used, a node to the way religious artists usually work to depict scenes of the Nativity. For contrast, a deep blue colour was added as the backdrop to the identity.
“In the exhibition space, the names of the artists are printed on gold plated placards underneath each painting, a node to the historical labelling of the Belgian Impressionist’s exhibitions of the time.”
“The appios® team was present at the building stage of the exhibition, ensuring that all informational and semiological elements were executed perfectly throughout the temporary show.”
Publication
The publication, set in the colours of the exhibition, a pale blue and rich beige, uses a simple layout to showcase the paintings alongside text. As this was a substantial exhibition for the Gallery, the publication was printed in both hardcover and soft to mark this special event for the Gallery and guarantee a longevity for the book.
“To ensure high quality printing throughout the book and equal representation of the paintings as printed images, the team at appios® oversaw the process from design to printing and delivering.”
